Who can I help?

As the Member of Parliament for Barnsley North, I’m here to represent and support everyone who lives in the Barnsley North constituency.

There is a strict Parliamentary protocol that prevents me from intervening on behalf of another MP’s constituents. To find out if I am your MP, enter your postcode here before getting in contact.

If you are my constituent, please include your address and postcode in any emails or letters you send me. This means I’ll be able to tell straight away if you’re one of my constituents.

If you email me, you’ll always automatically receive an autoreply asking you to send me your address and postcode if your initial email didn’t include them. If it did, then you can safely ignore the autoreply. But if you didn’t include them please do send them along or there may be a long delay in me getting back to you!

What can I help with?

Assistance with central government departments

As the MP for Barnsley North, I can generally help with any issue that falls under the responsibility of central government, such as problems with welfare benefits, immigration, and health.

So if you’re experiencing delays or problems with services like the Home Office, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the  Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), or the National Health Service (NHS), I can make enquiries on your behalf or help you understand your rights and options.

There are some issues that I’m not able to help with, but I or a member of my small team will always be on hand to offer advice on where you can find the help that you need.

Assistance with local government

As the MP for Barnsley North, I am completely separate from our local authority, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. This means that I have no formal powers over the services that the Council are responsible for providing local residents, including:

  • Adult and child social care
  • Schools
  • Housing and planning
  • Waste collection and management
  • Licensing
  • Business support
  • Registrar services
  • Pest control
  • Roads and transport (including the development of road safety measures such as traffic lights and speed bumps)

If you have a problem that only relates to your specific area, such as parking problems on your street, then one of your local councillors will probably be the best person to contact. You can find their details here

However, I am always happy to raise your issues with the Council, and will always work to ensure the best result I can in my capacity as MP.
